New exclusive interview with Friedemann Vogel in the Japanese magazine Fujingaho

Not only was I no longer able to perform on stage as a dancer, but the environment in which I had always shared a creative space with so many people was cut off. It was not easy for me to maintain my daily rhythm and continue my physical and mental training on my own.

Ahead of his highly anticipated return to Tokyo to perform four different pieces for the special Stuttgart Ballet Gala, Friedemann Vogel gives an exclusive interview to the Japanese magazine Fujingaho. In it, he speaks frankly about the nightmarish days when he wasn’t even allowed to rehearse, and how the silver lining of the pandemic is the climate of support it has engendered amongst artists.

Friedemann will be performing at the Bunkakaikan from 19 to 21 March, with fellow principal dancer Elisa Badenes a pas de deux from Kenneth MacMillan’s Mayerling and a pas de deux from John Cranko’s Onegin, Maurice Béjart’s Boléro with the Tokyo Ballet, and for the first time in front of a live audience, his first choreography Not in my hands, which he co-created with Thomas Lempertz, as his heartfelt response to the pandemic and the loss of his mother.
