Dance Meets Science at the University of Tübingen
Following his joint lectures in the 2024/2025 winter semester, Friedemann Vogel will step up his collaboration with the University of Tübingen’s Collaborative Research Centre as a co-opted member, via a Mercato Fellowship.
Further to undertaking more teaching and research in the “Other Aesthetics” Programme, to continue the exploration of the key questions “Why does art move us? What do we mean by aesthetics? What does art do in and for our society?” , Friedemann will be developing two new projects with Prof Annette Gerok-Reiter and Prof Anna Pawlak in the summer semester.
These include a publication focusing on “Ecorché! Anatomy of Dance” – the performance given by Friedemann gave at the iconic Alte Anatomie that he co-conceived with Thomas Lempertz to announce the launch of the second phase of funding for the project in March 2024. There will also be a workshop examining Heinrich von Kleist’s text “About the Marionette Theatre”, which inspired “Die Seele am Faden/Soul Threads” - co-created by the two dance artists., to integrate and analyse the dance-practical and the scientific-analytical perspectives on Kleist’s essay. Additionally, Friedemann will lead an experimental movement workshop for members of the Centre, concentrating on the physical aspects of the connection between science and dance.
